For local governments
More productive land use, stronger tax base, less dead space.
Infill development can be better for a city’s bottom line than pushing growth outward. One recent analysis found about $12,000 in infrastructure savings per home and about $2,000 more in tax revenue per acre when development happens inside the city instead of at the edge.
That matters for cities trying to reduce the burden of roads, sewer, and utility expansion while improving long-term property productivity.
